Prestigious Ross Award to Highlight
ASGCA's
60th Annual Meeting at Pinehurst
The 60th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Golf
Course Architect (ASGCA) will be held Mar. 24-29, at Pinehurst
Resort, N.C., where Jim Awtrey of the PGA of America will receive the 2006 Donald Ross
Award.
The
Donald Ross Award, ASGCA's highest honor, will be presented
at the Ross Banquet on Mar. 26, in the Carolina Hotel. The
recognition is made annually to an individual who has made
significant contributions to the golf industry and the profession
of golf course architecture. Awtrey, now retired, was a
long-time PGA leader, having worked with the organization
since 1972. His selection of architecturally-significant
layouts for PGA championships helped millions of golf enthusiasts
to better appreciate the role of the golf course architect.
Also slated to be honored is ASGCA Past President Ed Seay.
Seay will receive ASGCA's Distinguished Service Award, given
to ASGCA members who have served the Society with distinction
for decades and have made a dramatic positive impact on
the profession of golf course architecture.
The Annual Meeting provides a venue for ASGCA members to
focus on current issues such as technology and the environment.
Several ASGCA members and golf industry professionals will
lead panel discussions on golf course design and construction.
The first ASGCA Annual Meeting was held in Pinehurst in
1947 and was hosted by ASGCA co-founder Donald Ross.
